Relaxing and Fun Weekend with Teenagers
We enjoyed a relaxing and fun weekend with our teenage daughter and a couple of friends. My husband and I brought our paddle boards and we were able to enjoy the water and relax after by watching Netflix on the cozy couches. The girls had a great time playing pool and ping pong in the adjacent house. The house was roomy, clean, and comfortable. It was a little chilly the first night, but after a phone call, the owner dropped off portable heaters and we were quite warm after that. The dishwasher and stove/range are on the old side, and a bit temperamental, but otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful views and great location
Our family had a wonderful time staying in this home. The location on Mitchell Bay is breathtaking and peaceful, quiet. It is located between Roche Harbor and Friday Harbor which makes driving to either town easy. The home itself is spacious with lots of rooms and living areas. The view off the deck is gorgeous. The beds were in good condition and very comfortable. The bathrooms are nice and the showers all work well. We care about that kind of stuff. The game room was especially fun as we love ping-pong and playing pool. I recommend bringing your own ping-pong balls as there were none there. The home is in need of some repair. We provide that feedback to the property manager. The deck has many raised boards and exposed nail heads. You cannot walk on the deck barefoot. The kitchen needed some cabinet work with the a few faces falling off of the drawers. Also many of the pans were in need of replacement as the Teflon was peeling off into the food so we could not use them. Many of the blinds on the windows don’t work properly. Also no screens in the windows or doors so while the breeze flowing through is wonderful, the bugs were not. We opted to deal with the mosquitos/flies because we loved the breeze. The water in the bay does go out with the tide and it leaves a large exposed area of mud. We didn’t mind because we enjoyed clamming when tide was out but I highly recommend you bring good water shoes because you can’t see what you are stepping through in the mud and there are sharp shells and glass. The tide comes in late in the afternoon so it makes that time of day the most enjoyable. The dock is in good working order. Any boat your bring (and you do need to bring your own, there is not one there), will be sitting in the mud by the morning. If you don’t mind pushing your boat out to the water 50 yards out you can use your boat during the day otherwise you have to wait till the tide comes back in in the afternoon. If you want to crab, bring your own crab pots and bait. We had to go outside the bay to find good crabbing locations as we did not have any luck in the bay itself. The only other thing I would mention is that the property owner lives on the property in a home adjacent to the rental. We didn’t see her very often and when we did she was lovely to talk with. And while we are a very boring low-key family, and she never approached us, I felt conscious of her presence while there.

Week in Bakkers Acres
We had a fun week at the house on the bay. The house was very comfortable and quiet and has great views. I think the property listing should make clear that photos were taken at high tide and that low tide every morning is very muddy. Also, although the listing states that the owners do not provide kayaks or other watercraft, what we did not know until we arrived and I made some calls is that none of the kayak outfits in town would rent kayaks for use at the Vrbo property due to liability concerns. This means that, unless you bring your own boat or kayaks, you will not be able to get on the water directly from the house. Also, although the property listing does state that there is no Cable TV and that the only way to watch programs is through streaming channels, I assumed that the owners' Netflix or other streaming account would be available to us. Instead, the property manager informed me that we had to use our own accounts. So, you must have your log-in information and other devices with you in order to do this. I think this should be spelled out more clearly in advance.
